Exhibition: Pop-up Books by Colette Fu
The Georgetown University Department of Art and Art History is pleased to announce “Land of Deities: Pop-up Photos of Southwest China” by Colette Fu. This exhibition features selections from her “We Are Tiger Dragon People” series, as well as new work which celebrates and explores China’s ethnic minorities through the unique medium of the pop-up book. The show will run from January 21 – April 12, 2015 at the Spagnuolo Art Gallery in Walsh.
Fu creates pop-up books using photographs that she takes while traveling around the world. Her work is included in the Library of Congress, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, and many private and rare archive collections. She has designed for award winning stop motion animation commercials and freelanced for clients including Vogue China, Canon Asia, the Disaster Research Center, and Moët Hennessy • Louis Vuitton. Fu is also a passionate educator, who teaches pop-up courses and community workshops with marginalized populations at various art centers, universities, and institutions internationally.
The gallery opening will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015; the Artist’s Talk will be held from 5:00-6:00 pm, and a reception will follow from 6:00-7:00 pm.
