Lisa Strong's research interests include nineteenth century landscape painting, scientific illustration, women artists, and the history of museums. She recently completed essays on painter Karl Bodmer for an exhibition organized by the Joslyn Museum of Art, Faces from the Interior: The North American Portraits of Karl Bodmer, as well on William Clark's "Museum of Indian Curiosities" for U.S. Museum History and the Politics of Interpretation: Never Neutral, ed. Laura Schiavo, Routledge, 2023. Her current project considers disability and philanthropy in John Singleton Copley's Watson and the Shark.
Prior to joining the faculty at Georgetown University, Lisa Strong was Manager of Curatorial Affairs at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and Assistant Professor at James Madison University.
